The Island Hotel Bed & Breakfast, in Cedar Key, Florida, is on the National Register of Historic Buildings, and is one of Florida's most famous Bed and Breakfasts. Built in 1859, the Island Hotel in Cedar Key is constructed from seashell tabby with oak supports. Its walls have withstood hurricanes for almost 150 years, and its sloping wooden floors have survived the passage of innumerable feet. Breakfast includes fresh brewed Columbian roast coffee or imported and herbal teas, fruit juice, toasted homemade bread, and a choice of the house-specialty cooked breakfast. Sit on a rocker on the long balcony and watch the sun set over the Gulf or relax in the cozy lounge bar, painted in 1948 with murals of Cedar Key and King Neptune, for whom the bar is named. Island Hotel features a restaurant where guests can feast on Crab Bisque and Heart of Palm Salad while dining in the "casually elegant" dining room or on the screened porch. The Island Hotel features 10 rooms, all of them individual with traditional ceiling fans. To preserve the romantic and traditional ambience, there are no televisions or telephones in any of the rooms. Some of the rooms have old-fashioned claw-foot tubs (bubble bath provided]), some showers and some tub and showers. They all have the original hand-cut wooden walls and floors, and are centrally heated and air-conditioned. All of the rooms have private bathrooms, two have king-sized beds, four have queen-sized beds, and the remainder have double beds. Bear right onto CR-2205 (South Lake Bradford Road). Turn left onto SR-263 (Capital Circle South West). Keep straight onto US-319. Turn right onto US- 27. Keep straight onto US-19. Turn right onto SR-24 (South East 2nd Avenue). Bear left onto SR-24 (North East 2nd Avenue). Keep straight onto SR-24. Keep left to stay on SR-24. Keep straight onto SR-24. Follow to Cedar Key. At the stop sign in Cedar Key, turn left onto 2nd Street. The Island Hotel will be three blocks down on the left.
